How organized are you when it comes to your money?
Do you have a system for tracking what comes in and what goes out? Or do you just click and pay and hope the money is there?
Today’s guest is Kirsty Farrugia of Feels Like Home Professional Organising (with an “s” not a “z” ). She is also one of the co-hosts of the popular The Art of Decluttering podcast. Kirsty is a mum to 2, self proclaimed recovering messaholic, and former financial planner. Which makes her the perfect expert for today’s topic.
KIRSTY’S TIP FOR ORGANIZING YOUR FINANCES
- It’s important to keep your finances organized so you can make wise and informed decisions about your spending, saving and investments.
- Kirsty’s number one tip for being aware of what is coming in is to be consistent about opening your statements, whether they are on email or paper copies. Open your mail EVERY DAY to make yourself aware of what comes in and what needs to go out.
- It is so much easier to deal with 5 pieces of mail than it is to deal with 150 pieces of mail.
- Creditors will be so much more likely to show you grace if you ask for help when you first get a statement than when you are 5 months overdue.
- When you aren’t aware of your bills, they have power over you. But having the awareness of what you owe gives you to power to create a plan. By being aware you take back ownership and don’t give money and creditors any more power over you than they are due.
- When setting up a budget, Kirsty recommends 3 categories: your fixed costs which are regular bills that stay the same from month to month, your variable bills which can shift based on earnings or unexpected costs and your savings. Set up 3 separate accounts to pay or save. That way you know the money for the fixed costs (monthly bills) is there to pay those bills, You can see how much is available for your variable costs like groceries or entertainment. And you keep you hands off what is supposed to be savings so it can actually be saved.
Delicious, cool and creamy cocktail you can drink as a martini or blend with ice for a frozen treat.
- 2 oz Frangelico
- 2 oz Kahlua
- 2 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
- 4 oz Heavy Cream
Drop a dob of honey in the bottom of a martini glass and, using a teaspoon, pull the honey up the side of the glass
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the remaining ingredients to the cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously.
Strain into honey lined martini glass.
For Frozen Version
Add all ingredients plus ice to blender and blend until smooth.
